eBike
Insurance is a fully online quote, buy and servicing website.
eBike Insurance offer lots of addtional products included
within the price that other motorbike insurers charge for,
such as breakdown cover, bonus guarantee, legal expenses and
many more and prices are generally the most competitive around.
General
comments:
eBike
Insurance offer three types of policies "Standard policy",
"Pay as you go" and "Classic policy".
For the purposes of the overview the "Standard policy"
has been used.
Number
of pages to premium (with no claims or convictions) - 12
Good points:
Site is clean, clear and easy to read. There are only a few
questions on each page which makes for an easy process.
You are able to recall your details from after the first screen.
Can cover upto 4 riders and upto 4 motorbikes per policy.
Offers cover for fast food delivery, very few main stream
motorbike insurers offer this
Bad
points:
Error messages appear one at a time so you have to correct
one at a time - very annoying
Adding claims or convictions pops up in a new window without
any warning - very annoying
Progress bar doesn't actually show your progress as each stage
is actually lots of screens.
Very few help icons (though questions are quite detailed so
not always necessary)
No free type function when finding your motorbike.
Amend personal or motorbike details function is not obvious
and makes it frustrating to go back until you work it out
Spelling mistakes on premium page
eBike
Insurance quote process:
First
screen: Introduction.
Shows a couple of points about the site and has a "Get
a Quote" button on it. Make sure you scroll down the
page as the opt in / opt out of marketing questions are hidden
below the scroll line.
Second
screen: Address details.
Enter the house name / number and postcode as soon as you
tab out of the postcode box a pop-up appears offering to fill
in the rest of the address for you. E-mail address and phone
number are complusory
Third
screen: Proposer details.
Usual stuff, Title, first name, middle name, surname, date
of birth, gender,
Fourth
screen: Licence details.
Type of licence, years held, qualifications (lots of options
- more than any other site), engine capacity of last motorbike
owned and years continuous riding experience.
Fifth
screen: Claims / Convictions / medical conditions
Whether you have been refused insurance, any disclosable medical
conditions (if you have any and not disclosed it to the DVLA
eBike will not quote you), whether you have any non-motoring
convictions, are you a professional sportsman / entertainer
(eBike won't quote you if are). Claims or convictions.
There is a "View" word next to the claims / convictions
radio buttons, which opens a new window and shows you the
same thing as if you click yes. No explanation as to why it
does this.
Additional
screen 1 (pop-up): Claims
Enter date and select from a short drop down list. Then there
is a free type box - which seems pointless as it can't affect
your quote, so not sure what eBike would expect in here. By
clicking update info it allows you to enter more claims.
Addtional
screen 2 (pop-up): Convictions
Select conviction from a large drop down list then add a date.
Again click update info to add more (if you've been particularly
naughty)
Beware:
If you want to amend your details again you need to click
on your details in the coloured box - this is not obvious
and takes a bit of time to work out.
Sixth
screen: Add more riders.
Click "Add another rider" if you have more riders
(up to 4 total).
Seventh
screen: Motorbike details (can cover up to 4 motorbikes per
policy)
Registration number, then select make of your motorbike (annoyingly
each time you move a manufacturer the screen refreshes), motorbike
model, engine capacity, year of registration, market value
motorbike including accessories and modifications.
(no validation against bike type and engine size)
Eighth
screen: Motorbike security
When you bought it, will it be garaged, alarm / immobiliser
/ tracker fitted (selection from drop down list), motorbike
protected by mechanical device (selection from drop down list),
modifications (pop-up screen), is the motorbike on a Q plate,
are you the registered owner, where is the motorbike parked
majority of the time
Addtional
screen (pop-up): Modifications.
Select individual modifications then select more information
to add more. The list is fairly comprehensive
Ninth
screen: Cover details
Cover options - Comprehensive, Third party fire and theft,
Third party only,
Years NCD
Class of use - Social domestic and pleasure, Business use
(class 1), Courier, Fast food delivery
Tenth
screen: Dates of cover
Start date of cover, start time of cover. Can only quote up
to 30 days in advance
Eleveth
screen: Confirmation page: Summary of details
Review the details you have entered, all sections are shown.
If you need to amend them click on the progress bar tabs.
Twelfth
screen: Premium page: Displays premium
Lots of text in the visible part of the page about quote valid
until (check for spelling mistakes!), how to recall your quote,
etc.
Amazingly the premium is actually below the scroll line which
doesn't make for great usability, and is in small not easily
seen text. The voluntary excess is easy to change and you
can add policy extensions i.e. Helmet and Leathers cover (£49.99)
and European Breakdown (£49.99)
You need to add details of the policy where you have earned
your No Claim Discount (you cannot proceed without this.
